Green Procurement
- Canon Products require Green Procurement Compliance
- Independent Business Products may require RoHS Compliance
Guided by its corporate philosophy of kyosei, Canon has been carrying out activities to conserve the earth's environment, including green procurement. Our progressive efforts are based on the belief that green procurement is an important task of a corporation trying to fulfill its environmental responsibilities. To promote green procurement, Canon issued the "Global Canon Green Procurement Standards" and "Global Canon Green Procurement Guidebook" as early as in 1997.
Partner suppliers must complete all green procurement requirements and be approved prior to business award.
Eight steps are necessary to comply with our Green Procurement requirements:

Even if the content flag is N, the supplier must continue to input Total Content (mg) amount as follows: content of chemical substances per survey unit in mg. If no content is present, enter 0.00. If the content is greater than 0.00, supplier must input Intended Use Classification(s), Purpose of Use, Application Area, and Maximum Content Rate (ppm). For each intended use classification, corresponding items are assigned based on whether the content flag is Y or N. Select the intended use classification that is consistent with the content flag. Use of Conflict Minerals
Canon's response to U.S. federal legislation regarding Conflict Minerals under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act; finalized in July 2010; companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange, are required to report annually to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as to whether or not their products contain metals derived from Conflict Minerals (tantalum, tin, tungsten, and gold).
Information required by the SEC includes: identification of the country of origin for any tantalum, tin, tungsten, or gold in our products and determination of whether the four object minerals; if they do originate from the DRC=Democratic Republic of the Congo; are "conflict free" (i.e. they do not directly or indirectly finance armed groups through mining or mineral trading in the DRC region). Additionally, the SEC requires the provision details about how such information was obtained and verified (due diligence).
In order for Canon to assure that our customers can continue to use Canon products with confidence, we conduct a survey to confirm that there is no history of or continued use of conflict minerals in our products. This manual was created in order to facilitate the completion of the conflict minerals survey.
